2010 Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series
Press Releases

June 14, 2010 Louisville, KY)
Battle of the Bluegrass Has First Protest at Matt Pike Memorial Pull

The Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series(BOB Series) had its first protest take place at the Matt Pike Memorial Pull in Brandenburg, KY this past weekend.  “Protests are a part of pulling and the BOB Series handled the situation as professionally as could be expected.”, said BOB Series CEO Tom McConnell.

The protest took place in the Pro Farm Tractors.  A field of 13 tractors took to the sled at Brandenburg and the last tractor of the class was the lone John Deere of Royce McGowan.  Royce took the lead by barely beating current BOB Series Points Leader Barry Elliott.  Before Royce could be towed to the winners circle, a protest request was handed to a BOB Official with a $1,000 cash.  The protest was against the unofficial class winner, Royce McGowan.  When Royce was interviewed before the record crowd, Royce told the fans that “ …if you go out and beat these Red Boys a few times, they can’t take it!  I will tear my tractor down and take their protest money.”, commented Royce.

The protest was for exceeding the cubic inch limit of 470, turbo size and nitrous oxide.  The tractor was towed back to the pits with a BOB Official watching the tractor.  The head was taken off the tractor and was found legal within the cubic inch limit.  The turbo was legal and no nitrous oxide was found.  Later in the show, Royce was interviewed again, and officially declared the winner in front of a roaring crowd.  “We are going to have to do our homework and beat Royce on the track,”, commented the puller that filed the protest.

In other action, the Super-Modified 2WD Trucks made their debut in Brandenburg.  Seven of the top trucks in the nation were in competition, including Jimmy Mattingly driving a new t-bucket that he built for Mike Carter.  Eddie Carey won the class with a perfect run in his “Destitination Unknown” t-bucket.  Wesley Foster finished second in his “Barb Wire” Dodge.

The Light Limited Super Stock featured the most exciting runs all evening, with two tractors landing on top of the sand pile at the end of the track.  Both Jerry Sipes and David Burnett climbed to the top of the sand, and when the dust settled in the five way pull off, current BOB Series Points leader Jerry Sipes won the Matt Pike Memorial Pull for the second year in row.  Sipes commented that he build a “Fox trap” for this event, referring to Tim Fox, who won the last two BOB Series events.

The Light Weight Super Stock Tractors made their series debut at this event as well.  Nine top running alcohol tractors were in competition, with Larry Phillips giving the crowd a wild ride, rocking back and forth on his rear tires with his new ride “Extremely Insane”.  The class was won by the “Red Menace” of Mike Happe, who pulled the sled over 330 feet for the win.

The Pro Stock 4WD Trucks closed out the evening, with nearly 20 trucks in the class.  There were two Fords in the class that is dominated by Chevrolets, with John Payne taking the win in his Ford Ranger named “Major Payne.”  The class, as usual, featured close action with the top trucks all being within several feet of each other.
