2009 Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series
Press Releases

November 16, 2009(Louisville, KY)
1st Annual Bluegrass Super Pull Great Success at THE ARENA in Corbin, Kentucky

The 1st Annual Bluegrass Super Pull, presented by Corbin Motorsports, is now in the books and with over 300 hooks, the event was a great success.  “We had over 230 entries, from 11 states represented, with 12 classes being pulled, and the event went wonderful.”, said BOB Series CEO Tom McConnell.  “The building is one of the best in the country for pulling and we look forward to the 2nd Annual Bluegrass Super Pull next year in Corbin.”, commented McConnell.

Lots of work went into making the event successful, but problems occurred, and were overcome.  The dirt was poured on the floor last Monday morning, and had to be totally removed by Tuesday morning, as the dirt was wet.  New clay was hauled in, some 27 tri-axle dump truck loads in all, and a great track was prepared by Tuesday evening.  “The track turned out to be one of the best tracks the Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series ever had, and we are thankful to all the pullers who volunteered their time to make this possible.”, commented BOB Series President Kevin Fulks.  “We would like to personally thank Byron Amburgey, Mike Savey, Jerry Ross, Larry Phillips, and so many others that helped us with the track all weekend long.” Commented Fulks.

On Friday Night, the Bluegrass Classic, presented by Eagle Tractor, took place.  The Bluegrass Classic took the Top Eight Drivers in seven Battle of the Bluegrass Points Standings for a special pull, with a $1000 going to the winner.  A drivers introduction was done before the pull started, recognizing the top pullers from the BOB Series.  All drivers were also in a drawing to win a new Eagle Tractor.  BOB Series Super Farm Puller Dexter Sims won the Eagle Tractor.  Dan McCord, Greg Lamb, Ricky Wyatt, and Wesley Wade also won products in the drawings for the BOB Series drivers.

Four sessions of qualifications took place for all drivers for a chance to compete in the Finals, held on Saturday night.  Several out of state drivers made the cut for the finals, as did many of the BOB Series regulars.  Highlights on Saturday Night included the smoke machine catching on fire during the run of Vern Zerby in the Outlaw Super Farm.  As Vern left the line a big fire ball came out of his exhaust, and by the end of the run the inside of the smoke machine was on fire.

The most exciting run of the evening was in the Super Modified 2WD Truck, when Eddie Carey (Destination Unknown—T-Bucket) landed his truck on top of the sand pile at the end of the track, crashing through the wall and retainer fence.  The BOB Series had roped off the front six rows of seats, and no one, including the driver, was injured, but major damage was done to the wall and truck.

Complete results of the Bluegrass Super Pull will be posted soon.  DVD’s of all sessions will be available on the Battle of the Bluegrass Website, as will the last chance for fans to buy event t-shirts and programs.
