2009 Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series
Press Releases

June 1, 2009 (Louisville, KY)
Ponderosa Speedway Event Great Success for the Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series

The Battle of the Bluegrass Pulling Series(BOB Series) held the first truck and tractor pull ever at the World famous Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on May 30, 2009. Event had over 60 entries with great pulling action on a good power track. “The facility is excellent for truck and tractor pulling. There was plenty of pit area and plenty of staging area.” said BOB Series CEO Tom McConnell. “The track was of concern, as event promoter Larry Yantz was going to haul in dirt for the track. With the wet spring we had, time did not allow for the dirt to be hauled in, but the dirt in the infield worked great for pulling. It was a real power track.”, added McConnell.

Six classes of competition were held at the Ponderosa on May 30. In the Street Stock Diesel Truck(Work Stock), BOB Series promoter and puller Jerry Ross took the victory in Chevy Duramax, pulling 296.05. Scott Willoughby took second, with Casey Jones taking third.

With the floating finish line rule in place, the 10,000 Hot Farm Tractor was won by the International of Coby Morris, pulling 305.03. Rodney Goodlett took second with the “Red Draggin’”, while Dennis Peach took third. Mike Havens pulled into to third place with his Ford, but was DQ for exceeding the RPM limit of 3,000.

In the Pro Street Diesel Truck(2.6), Kevin Caudill won the class with a distance of 315.10. The East Kentucky native is one of the top Pro Street Diesel Trucks in the region, and his distance proved that he is the guy to beat. Finishing second was another top contender in this class. William Chambers pulled just two feet shy of the win at 313.04 and finishing third was Paris, Kentucky native Gene Jolly.

The 8500 Pro Farm Tractor saw some wild rides. Kevin Stears nearly turned his tractor over, as he was going for the win but could not keep the tractor under control. Using great skill, he shut the tractor down before any damage was done to the tractor. Taking the win was Keith Race on his famous “Red Rattler”, followed by Justin Massie on “Old Red”, and Pete Baxter driving “Red Rock” to a strong third place finish.

Also in the class was Battle of the Bluegrass Dirt Car Series Driver and 2008 Rookie of the Year, Royce McGowan. Royce pulled 316.04 as the test puller on his John Deere, formerly owned by Robert Galloway. When the sled was reset, Royce finished 6th. Royce has raced at the Ponderosa many times in his Late Model Dirt Car and was glad to see a pull at such a great facility.

In the Pro Stock 4WD Truck class, some 16 trucks were in competition for the $600 going to the winner. With the floating finish line rule in place, these trucks put on a great show, with 11 trucks pulling the sled over 300 feet. The winner was Adam Kincaid, out of LaGrange, KY. Adam pulled 310.01 with his “Wicked” Chevy. Finishing second was Jay Holt in his “Fabrication” Chevy and third was Neal Allen with “Red Rock” Chevy. Neal, a native of Brandenburg, KY. is also the promoter of the upcoming BOB Series event to be held in Brandenburg, KY. on June 20. That event is paying $1,000 to win for the BOB Series classes.

Closing out the evening was the Outlaw Diesel Trucks(2.8). The crowd went crazy as these high horsepowered diesels drug the sled through the infield. Finishing first was one of the top drivers in this class, that being Taylor Stivers. The Shelbyville, KY native pulled 326.09, the longest measured distance of the event. The Dodge fans went crazy as he dragged the sled passed 300 feet. Terry Coppess, out of Ohio finished second with his “Blue Goose” Dodge, pulling an incredible 325.09, and third went to Chevy Duramax of Ryan Uptegraft, pulling 316.05. The crowd really enjoyed the look of this vehicle, with a unique hood scope.
